Pte William Tiehurst was born 6 June 1887 in England. He was liviing at 60 Syndeham Street in Toronto at the time of his enlistment with the 20th BN on 15 March 1915. He attestation paper indicates that he served 6 years with the 2nd Sussex Regiment.
