Pte Jospeh Waller was born in Leytonstone, Essex on 6 Dec 1872. He had previous service with the 34th Regiment. He attested with the 20th BN in Toronto on 13 Nov 1914. He embarked for England on the SS Megantic on 24 May 1915. He was AWOL from the 22 to the 26 Aug 1915 and again on 12 Oct 1915 fand 8 Dec 1915 or 3 and 6 days respectively. It appears that he didn't make it to France. He returned to Canada on 20 March 1916 and demobilized as unfit. His medical file indicates that he slipped into a trench while on manouvers and suffered from stiffness and pain in the right shoulder. This is his only medal entitlement.
