Pte George Campbell Paterson was born 7 march 1885 in Scotland and had served 3 years with the 6th BN Royal Scots.. He enlisted with the 20th BN in Toronto on 8 April 1915. He arrived in England aboard the SS Magantic on 24 May 1915. He went AWOL on 17 July 1915. He embarked for France on 10 Jan 1916 and was transferred to the 4th Canadian Infantry Brigade on 15 Jan 1916. Admitted to the 5th Canadian Field Ambulance for Influenza on 15 June 1916 and discharged for duty 5 days later. Promoted to Cpl on 21 Sept 1916 and attached to Canadian Corps School on 12 Dec 1916. He was promoted to Sgt on 4 March 1917 and was wounded on 12 March 1917 (GSW left leg). He was discharged from the Canadian Casualty Clearing Detachment on 23 May 1917.Promoted to T/Lieut on 23 Nov 1918 qnd returns to Canada on 29 March 1919. His record indicats that he served in England and France with the 20th BN CEF, 4th Bde Machine Gun Corps, 4th Reserve BN and the Canadian Machine Gun Corps
