George VI (GRI cypher) British Empire Medal for Meritorious Service (impressed T/73616 Sgt Thomas Reed R.A.S.C)

Sgt Thomas Reed R.A.S.C Awarded the British Empire medal whilst serving with 128 Coy RASC (Bridging). It was reported in the London Gazette on21 June 1945 “in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Northwest Europe”.

 Included with the medal is a copy of the recommendation for the award:
 
This NCO disembarked on D1 in charge of 24 ORs and 2 Task sections and was detached for some considerable time form his platoon officer. During the building of 36 bridges by this platoon, Sgt Reed has on many occasions been in command of a detachment on important operations. Many of these operations have been conducted under enemy fire, he has at all times carried out his duty in an exemplary manner, and has gained the complete confidence and trust of his platoon officer and men. He has frequently carried the responsibilities exceeding his rank to entire satisfaction, at all times he has proved himself an able leader, of sound judgment and capable of making an instant decision. In view of the outstanding service rendered by this NCO during the past six months he is strongly recommended for an award.
 
Included with the medal is Sgt Reeds WW2 Dog tags.
